This year marks 40 years of Menzies. While it’s a milestone worth celebrating, this event is all about looking ahead. Because 40 years on, the big questions still matter: What’s next? What’s needed? And most importantly - who’s leading the change?

This special event brings together emerging and established leaders in health, science and community to explore how young people - across cultures and disciplines - are shaping a fairer, healthier and more sustainable future.

What to expect?

Keynote Speaker:
Ms Tiahni Adamson – proud Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander woman, wildlife conservation biologist, and 2024 SA Young Australian of the Year, advocate for Indigenous science, climate justice, and youth leadership.

Panel Discussion:
  • Dr Josie Povey – Senior Research Officer & Darwin Site Lead, AIMhi-Y, bridging practical care with culturally safe digital innovation for First Nations youth.

  • Mr Peter Susanto – Medical student, COP29 youth representative, and UNICEF Young Ambassador, advancing climate-health advocacy and research here in the NT.

  • Prof Heidi Smith-Vaughn – Microbiologist and founder of HealthLAB, leading genomic public health and hands-on health education across the Territory.

  • Mr Jahdai Vigona – First Nations community leader, co-founder of the One Percent Program, and 2023 NT Young Australian of the Year, empowering young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men through culture, fitness, and wellbeing.

Together, they will explore the shifts ahead for health, science, and community — and inspire us all to think boldly about the future.
