Ruth Canty graduated with a Masters of Public Health in 2023. She has since commenced a PhD programme with Menzies.

Why did you choose to study public health?

We have a lot of complex social problems in Darwin. I wanted to understand more about how life is for all the people who live in the Northern Territory. I concluded that public health could help me answer some of the questions I had, or at least point me in the right direction.

Why did you choose to study through Menzies?

I didn’t want to do a course online. I’m based in Darwin, and I wanted to be able to come into class and meet my lecturers and meet other students. Menzies and CDU have great resources online, which I certainly took advantage of, but I wanted to be able to participate face to face a well, and so Menzies was the natural choice.

What were the highlights of your studies with Menzies?

Meeting and learning from my lecturers, everyone at Menzies and the other students

What is your role/position now?

Part time research assistant at Menzies & PhD candidate.
