Menzies provided scholarship assistance to an outstanding Timor-Leste national, working offshore in our Timor-Leste office, enrolled in one of Charles Darwin University’s postgraduate public health and health research courses. Menzies reviewed all submitted applications and awarded a tuition scholarship to the most worthy candidate. The criteria used to assess applications included the course of study, how postgraduate study will impact the applicants’ lives, and their need.

The 2024 Menzies Timor-Leste Postgraduate Coursework Scholarship was awarded to Mr Antonio De Sousa who has enrolled in the Graduate Diploma of Public Health. In his application, Antonio demonstrated significant achievements working as a medical laboratory scientist and passion as he transitions to a career in public health.

Antonio De Sousa worked as a molecular scientist with the Timor Leste public health team during the COVID-19 pandemic. This provided him with an insight into the importance of public health and its intersection with the research area. Antonio believes working as a medical laboratory scientist and transitioning into public health is a significant shift. This scholarship will allow Antonio to delve deeper into the field of public health, gaining the necessary knowledge and skills to make a meaningful impact. 

This scholarship provides an opportunity to engage in academic pursuits, research endeavours, and practical experiences, whilst also opens doors to networking and mentorship opportunities.
