We deeply value our relationship with First Nations communities and are committed to ensuring their voices and knowledge guide how we approach representation and health research.

Engagement with Menzies' Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Brand Advisory Group played a key role in shaping our new brand identity. We are committed to meaningful collaboration with First Nations communities, ensuring cultural ownership and authenticity remain central to our work as we move forward with the new brand.

This commitment included the commissioning of Temporal Currents, an original piece by respected artist and Menzies researcher Jayde Hopkins. Jayde is a proud Gurindji and Woolwonga woman from Darwin, born and raised in an Aboriginal community on Larrakia land.

Temporal Currents tells the story of where Menzies has been and where we’re going. A brand overlay, drawn from this artwork, now forms a key part of our visual identity.

More than a design element, the overlay is a lasting symbol of our commitment to walking alongside First Nations communities in pursuit of real change.

The meaning behind 'Temporal Currents'

DOT WORK: Beyond a river, the imagery is reminiscent of neural pathways in the brain, the intricate mycelial networks within soil, or the deep-reaching roots of a plant. These living connections show how knowledge flows, grows, and intertwines, shaping Menzies’ story as it continues to unfold. As the  river meanders across the canvas, it moves toward the future, carrying the past while embracing  new discoveries.

TRIBUTARIES: Each tributary represents the diverse paths of research projects Menzies has undertaken over the last 40 years, shaping the landscape, influencing its surroundings, yet always remaining part of the greater system.

RIPPLES: The artwork depicts a great river system with branching tributaries, symbolising the journey of Menzies through time. Within the flowing water, knowledge is gathered and carried forward by the currents

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Brand Advisory Group

Our First Nations brand overlay symbolises our commitment to stand together with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities to achieve real change and to Close the Gap.

"Throughout the Menzies rebranding process, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Brand Advisory Group offered cultural advice on the development of Menzies’ new brand.

This collaborative approach led to the creation of an artwork that is both culturally appropriate and meaningful, that will be featured across Menzies brand to recognise key days of national significance for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples."
