“Ask the Specialist” is a cultural education podcast developed by researchers at Menzies School of Health Research with Top End Health Service, the NT Aboriginal Interpreter Service and Aboriginal leaders: Larrakia Elder Aunty Bilawara Lee, Tiwi Elder Pirrawayingi Puruntatameri and Yolŋu leader Rarrtjiwuy Melanie Herdman.

"Ask the Specialist" is a series of seven 20-minute podcasts which answer doctors’ questions about working with Aboriginal patients at Top End hospitals.

Aboriginal leaders, referred to as “the Specialists”, share personal experiences and cultural knowledge to address questions which range from the practical, “Is it okay to make eye contact?” to issues at the heart of cultural safety, “I want to know what Aboriginal people feel like when we talk to them, what makes them think that we're racist?”

The series, created by Menzies Postdoctoral Researcher, Dr Vicki Kerrigan in collaboration with Aboriginal Health Practitioner Stuart Yiwarr McGrath, will be publicly available in June 2020.

This project is embedded in the Communicate study.
