Contagion® will be heading to Amsterdam, Netherlands, on Saturday, April 13, 2019, to report on the annual European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ECCMID), a forum that brings together more than 12,000 investigators from around the world to discuss the latest findings, guidelines, and updates in the fields of microbiology and infectious diseases.

As a trusted source in the realm of infectious disease, the editorial team of Contagion® strives to consistently report on new developments in the field. Some of our recent coverage includes a feature on the on the resurgence of some vaccine-preventable diseases, a video program on the current measles outbreaks in the US, weekly flu updates, changes in first-line treatment recommendations for malaria, and up-to-the-minute case counts from the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo via our Outbreak Monitor.

What’s on the docket for the ECCMID conference this year?

Coverage will be focused on antimicrobial agents in the pipeline; treating health care-associated infections; the use of technology in infection management and control; the application of bacteriophages; advances in fighting antimicrobial resistance; plus, the results of several phase 3 clinical studies.

Additional coverage will focus on advances in the prevention, management, and treatment of various infections, such as Clostridium difficile, chronic bone and joint infections, and community-acquired pneumonia, among others. We will also speak with Jose A. Vazquez, MD, FACP, FIDSA, with the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University, on his case report from the FURI study on oral ibrexafungerp for refractory fungal diseases; and Les Tari, PhD, senior vice president of research at Cidara, on Cloudbreak, a novel approach for the treatment and prevention of influenza.

Tom van der Poll, MD, PhD, from Amsterdam UMC, University of Amsterdam, will deliver a symposia talk on sepsis; and Steven Y. C. Tong, PhD, with the Menzies School of Health Research in Darwin, Australia, will speak about the results of the CAMERA2 trial on combination antibiotic therapy for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia.
