Title:

Determining Streptococcus pneumoniae nasopharyngeal carriage among children less than five years of age in Timor-Leste: A cross-sectional survey prior to introduction of pneumococcal conjugate vaccines

Aim:

The aim of this study is to understand the germs living in the nose of your child and how this relates to the place where you live.

Summary:
  • Many children suffer from an infection of the lungs (pneumonia). These infections are caused by germs such as a bacterium called pneumococcus and viruses called influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). These germs can be found in the noses of children, even those who are healthy. Sometimes those germs travel to the lungs and cause pneumonia, which can be serious.
