Bininj Kunwok Regional Language Centre supports new phone App

04 March 2020

Menzies School of Health Research in Darwin are making a new phone app about Hepatitis B in Kunwinjku language with help from the Bininj Kunwok Regional Language Centre.
The Hepatitis B app is already available now in English and Yolngu Matha and is expected to be out later this year.
Dell Hunter (Ngalkodjok Ngalbolmo) and Jill Nganjmirra (Ngalwakadj Ngalbularlhdja) recently gave a presentation in Darwin to doctors and nurses.
They talked about their work translating the Hepatitis B app into Kunwinjku.
Other people who have been working on making the app in Kunwinjku are Cheryl Nadjalaburnburn (Ngalkangila), Andrew Managku (Nabulanj Namandjurlngunj), Roseanne Nawirridj (Ngalbangardi Ngalwurrrik), Seraine Namundja (Ngalkangila Ngallambirra), Lois Nadjamerrek (Ngalngarridj Ngalmok) and Johnny Djogiba (Nakangila Nawokmarranj).
If you are not sure whether you have Hepatitis B, go to your clinic for a check, especially if you are older than 30 years old.
If you don’t have Hepatitis B you can get a vaccination (needle) to protect you from getting this infection.
