Biography:

Sean is from Murray Island (Mer) in the Torres Strait. He was a health worker on Mer in the early 90s before being one of the first three nursing students to graduate from James Cook University’s Thursday Island campus in 2005. He worked as a nurse in Queensland, South Australia and the NT and graduated with Graduate Certificate in Health (Diabetes Management and Education) from Flinders University. Later Sean gained experience as a Research Officer on a number of large-scale, collaborative research programs in NSW, before completing his Bachelor of Health Science (Honours) through University of South Australia and Doctor of Public Health through James Cook University, specialising in improving diabetes care and management in regional and remote health care settings.
