Samantha graduated from the Master of Public Health in 2017.

Why did you choose to study public health?

I chose to study public health, as working in the Kimberley and the Northern Territory we are often faced notifiable diseases and communicable diseases such and tuberculosis and leprosy. I feel it was essential to further my scope of practice and give me a good grasp on public health and to how better help the communities in which I work.

Why did you choose to study through Menzies?

After working in the Territory, I was very familiar with Menzies' fantastic research projects and had used many of their helpful resources in my daily practice. I also chose Menzies as I felt the course was relevant to my work in the Northern Territory and the Kimberley and had an Indigenous focus.

What qualification did you graduate from Menzies with?

I graduated Menzies with a Master of Public Health.

Have your studies with Menzies led to further study, and if so what course are you enrolled in or have you completed?

I also have a postgraduate certificate in Remote Health Practice and a graduate diploma in Child and Family Health. I thoroughly enjoyed Public Health and hope to continue developing my knowledge in this area.

What were the highlights of your studies with Menzies?

I enjoyed ongoing help and support from the friendly and helpful lectures and support staff. When doing the intensive block, I always felt inspired by the lectures and more determined and passionate about my own work. I really enjoyed the communicable disease and epidemiology units and loved that I had such a large selection of elective units to choose from. I would recommend study at Menzies for anyone who has a passion about public health and research. It’s a great course.

Has your public health qualification opened up career opportunities?

Yes, A master of public health opens up many new career path ways and I feel I definitely have more options and avenues to explore since completing the course.

What is your role/position now?

I currently work in the Kimberley WA as a school  health nurse. This role includes travel to remote communities, health promotion, immunisation programs, child health and generalist community health roles which often require public health response to disease outbreaks.
