In 2011, the Global and Tropical Health division partnered with the Research Cabinet within the Ministry of Health in East Timor to provide ongoing support and mentoring on a range of research related issues including ethics, research management, the use of evidence-based research to determine national health priorities, and training on research methodologies to junior researchers. The collaboration focuses on research support and mentoring, with the aim of fostering independent research, aligned to the nation’s health priorities.
The Human Research Ethics Committee of the Northern Territory Department of Health and Menzies School of Health Research, based at Menzies has been working intensively with the East Timorese Research Ethics commitee, housed within the Timor Leste Ministry of Health, to create ethical processes for the approval, evaluation and management of ethical research.
