The Child Protection Research Program has been established under an agreement between Menzies School of Health Research and the Northern Territory Department of Health and Families (DHF). The aim of the Program is to strengthen and increase the capacity of the government, non government and community sector to implement evidence based interventions with at risk children and families.

The specific objectives of the Program are to:

  1. Establish a service oriented research capacity within Menzies School of Health Research (Menzies), guided by an Advisory Board with representation from Menzies, the NT Department of Health and Families (DHF) and other research and academic institutions and individuals in the field of child protection and family support.

  2. Develop an evidence base to inform policies, programs and services and contribute to the development of an annual NT Child Protection and Family Support research plan.

  3. Contribute to the development of training and education modules/tools/resources for DHF and other stakeholders in child protection and other areas relevant to evidence-based practice and research approaches.

  4. To contribute at a national and international level to advancing capacity to identify and prevent child abuse
