About Menzies School of Health Research

Menzies School of Health Research is an independent research organisation which has research progams focused on Indigenous, tropical and remote health. It is the focal point for medical research in northern Australia.

The mission of MSHR is to improve the health of people living in northern and central Australia, and regions to the near north, through multidisciplinary research and education.

MSHR was established in 1985 as a cooperative endeavour between the Menzies Foundation, Northern Territory Government and the University of Sydney. Additionally, MSHR is incorporated under Northern Territory legislation and controlled by an independent governing board.

MSHR reports to the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly through the Minister for Health and Community Services, and also to an annual general meeting of the School.

MSHR is based in Darwin, on the grounds of the Royal Darwin Hospital, RDH. with a smaller unit in Alice Springs, co-located with the Centre for Remote Health.
