Deckchair Cinema

Oh Boy! Put this in your diary.
Menzies fundraising film screening of kiwi hit Boy takes place at Darwin’s Deckchair Cinema on 5 July. Pull up a deckchair beneath the stars and bring along your friends and family to help Menzies raise funds for our research. We’re hosting a charity screening of the quirky, cute New Zealand comedy, Boy.

Directed by Academy Award nominee and Flight of the Concord’s writer and director Taika Waititi, this is a coming-of-age comedy set in the 1980s on the East Coast of New Zealand.
Boy (James Rolleston) is obsessed with Michael Jackson – in particular, his dance moves; and his little brother Rocky (Te Aho Eketone-Whitu) possibly possesses 'powers'.

In Boy's eyes, his dad is a hero: a deep-sea diver, war veteran, rugby captain and close relation of Michael Jackson. But in reality, larger-than-life father Alamein is doing seven years in jail and is a member of the three-man Crazy Horses gang. Now out of the can, Dad returns home and Boy is confronted with the man he thought he remembered.
