At Menzies School of Health Research we strongly believe medical and educational research is critical to reducing the health and socio-economic inequities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
When it comes to health, first impressions count; none more so than those made on a young life. Indigenous children are more likely to suffer from conditions that disadvantage not only their formative years, but their subsequent adult lives, too. The disease burden borne by Indigenous Australians is two and a half times greater than that of the mainstream population.
Menzies is committed to research and solutions that aim to reverse this trend. Our work is focused on helping the Indigenous children of today become the healthy adults of tomorrow.
Your tax deductible donation will make an enormous difference to the lives of many and is crucial to driving Menzies research and action to innovate and respond.
A report by Deloitte Access Economics in 2012 showed that every $1 invested in research at Menzies produces a return of $3.12. By comparison, for every $1 invested in the Australian health research sector in general, the return was $2.17. The same report showed, for the period 2002 to 2010, that the net benefit of Menzies’ research activities was $393 million.
No matter how big or small your contribution, there are several different ways that you or your community can help us to make a direct and tangible difference to improving the health and wellbeing of Indigenous and disadvantaged communities
